What the extension stores

Project names, approved product specifications, approved product URLs, source filenames, approval timestamps, revision notes and prior versions are saved in Chrome extension local storage. This storage belongs to the current Chrome profile and does not use Chrome sync. Use project nicknames and short destination labels; do not import client addresses or contact information.

Importing a CSV reads that file on your device. Exporting a backup downloads a JSON copy of your local records. Backups may contain your confidential project information; store and share them deliberately.

What is read during a check

Only after you click the extension and start a check, SpecLatch reads supported product fields such as selected options, product codes, visible dimensions and quantity controls. It also reads the selected page URL to identify the supported retailer and comparison source, and records capture times and short evidence snippets in the open check window. These page URLs and product details are handled only on your device. Chrome Web Store disclosures classify this as web history and website content, even though nothing is sent to us.

The extension does not read payment fields, shipping addresses, passwords, your general browsing history or unrelated page content. It does not use Chrome’s history API or track pages outside the explicit check. It does not change retailer selections, add cart items, place orders or submit checkout. No approved project data is sent to the retailer page.

Retention and deletion

Approved records stay in local storage until you delete an item, delete its project, erase all local data or uninstall SpecLatch. Revisions retain the earlier approved record so changes remain explicit.

Observations and pairings are temporary. Stopping the check, closing its window, switching projects or changing approvals clears them. A page navigation expires the check. Data is not automatically backed up.

Use Local data → Export workspace to make a backup. Use Local data → Delete all local data to remove all saved projects and history. Deleting local records does not remove previously downloaded backup files.

Website and demo

This public website is hosted with OpenAI Sites on Cloudflare infrastructure. The hosting providers process network requests needed to serve the pages, which can include IP address and browser request information under their own policies. SpecLatch adds no analytics, tracking cookies or contact form.

The web demo starts with fictional data. Its workspace exists only in the page’s memory and resets on reload; files are processed locally if you try an import. It is separate from your installed extension’s records.

Data use and support

SpecLatch does not sell data, use it for advertising or creditworthiness decisions, or transmit extension records to any server. Local access is used solely to compare your designer-approved specifications. SpecLatch’s use of information follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Extension data is not transferred to us or other third parties, used for advertising, or made available for developer or staff review. Review the support and data controls guide for help.
